meat anyone?

lady gaga is back and this time in meat! i have probably skipped over a few shocking outfits here and there but just so i can get to the jackpot also known as lady gaga's meat dress! Whats funny is that she almost looked conservative if it weren't for what her "gown" was made out of. She wore this to the MTV video music awards i 2010 to accept the "Video of the Year" award for "Bad Romance"

Notice though that lady gaga also had the headpiece, purse, and shoes to match here dress. Her dress was such a focus that no one even committed on her dip dye blue hair, which i thought looked pretty awesome. I remember watching this and being very confuse about what she was wearing this time, and im not usually shocked by Lady Gaga so thats saying something.

Does anyone else wonder where some of her clothes even come from of what the thought process is behind these outfits. one must wonder if there is something different going on in Gaga's mind or if she's just THAT cool. I must say though, that i  did watch an interview with her and she said that its all an act. and if so, its a darn good one that i do enjoy watching.

I just have a few questions though: No paint throwing from PETA? i was defiantly surprised. Was the person sitting next her a vegetarian? awkward. Is this even sanitary? questionable. Either way, im sure lady gaga just does not care but im sure she feed off of the shock value she gets. after all, her clothes is what keeps people talking. I am always will be a gaga fan just so you know and no amount of meat will change that.

blowing bubbles

I think I have an idea for a new mascot for this blog.... lady gaga! who else do you know can make an outfit out for practically anything. i don't know why i didn't think of this sooner. this is on the fast track on becoming a blog about lady gaga because i do love her and her fearlessness when it comes to fashion. I can say that she is one of my fashion idols even though i must note that you probably wont catch me in half of the things that she sports.

It all started off with her bubble dress, at least thats when i noticed her unique fashion taste. the singer and fashion extraordinaire ran into some trouble though because her ensemble looked all too similar to the design of avant garde designer  Hussein Chalayan  that had been featured in his 2007 runway show and gaga didn't give him credit for his work... but thats in the past and lady gaga is still shocking people with her clothes and sometimes the lack of.

no although I do like this and its not as "out of this world" as some of her choices, I cant help but be concerned the lack of comfort that comes from wearing a dress of plastic bubbles. but then again when your lady gaga, who cares about comfort? not lady gaga, thats for sure. I can say that she defiantly is the definition of it "hurts to look good." As seen in all her fashions that followed.

Gaga is defiantly the poster child of fashion made out of mediums. Thats why i indulge her differnces. She inspires people to think and dress a little different. Maybe its not such a bad thing that she has so many people liking her. she promotes change. After all, it can get a little boring seeing that same thing over and over and she's inspired some different approaches to fashion, just look at nicki minaj

duct, duct, goose

There are many many uses for duct tape and one more has been discovered. Im sure that by the nature of this blog you can predict that it has something to do with fashion and if you were one of these intellectuals who guessed that, you would be correct!

Even though I am not really a fan of what i've seen so far regarding garments made out of duct tape, i'm sure that there is some way to stray as well as avoid the tackiness that can be a result. I've seen some decent outfits and i've seen some that are just down right ugly, but this is duct tape that we're talking about. I can't imagine how time consuming creating a whole outfit out of duct tape can be so props to those people who've tried and succeeded (although they may have sacrificed some looks in the process).

At one point, making prom dresses and tux's was popular among high school seniors who wanted to go out with a bang. Unfortunately, I cant say I will be using duct tape to achieve this. Luckily though, duct tape makers have created different colors and patterns to appeal to those creative souls that want to use duct tape for something other than what it was originally made for.

I baby sat a girls once who was making accessories out of duct tape that were pretty cool, she had a little kit and everything that made her creations easy to make. She was proud of her new found talent and even offered to make me one but it would've taken too long. Because of Kori (which was the little girls name) I'm going to attempt to make something out of duct tape because its all that i can handle and all that I would use. I might even invest sometime into drawing all over it... i guess i'll be takign a trip to the dollar store after school today to pick up a roll.

newsflash

We're going to continue with the segment talking about fashion made out of unusual objects, this time we going to address paper products. Paper is great there are all different styles, textures, and weights that can be used to create a beautiful garment. And once again I want to point out that this is great step in the direction of going green. Why not support the well-being of our planet while sporting fashion at the same time.

Just type in the words "fashion made out of paper" into google and you get a lot of results. Many of which look way more intricate and beautiful then what might be expected from clothing using paper as a material. Even our favorite designers on the runway are adopting this and making paper fashion desirable. Even I want to attempt to make my own!

The best thing about this material, i think, is that it can look really feminine or very hardcore. It seems to be very versatile and treated just as fabric would. People and designers all over the world are taking on the challenge of paper. Even one student at school has gotten ver good at it and when it was announced that there would be a recycled paper fashion show in the spring, everyone already anticipated who would be entering.

Paint your creations and choose different colors depending on how you want your product to look. Theres even a demand for paper jewelry thats actually more robust than it may seem, but i assure you with paper and a lot of glue compacted together, you can only imagine how strong it really is. Paper outfits can go from very basic to vert intracate. Go on a search and see what you can find.

taking out the trash

So ever think to make something cool out of something completely unexpected? I think this idea has been adopted by people with a more forward way of thinking about fashion. One aspect of "wearable art" is the fact that art can be made out of anything. So if we take this into consideration, fashion too can be made out of anything.

The concept of "taking out the trash is a play on words," its making a nice dress that you can wear for a night on the town out of trash bags. Now this might sound like an outfit for your typical ABC party but this is in fact taking material other than fabric to another level. If  you posses a little imagination and maybe some duct tape in order to avoid some fashion mishaps, making an outfit out of anything is possible. Wearing these also takes some guts.

Now although this seems like something that Lady Gaga or even Nicki Minaj, both of who are all to famous for there out-worldly fashion choices. There are some great high fashion creations out of trash bags that I wouldn't be afraid of wearing. These photos also glamorize something that seemingly has no fashion potential.

...and if it's and consolation, celebrities on the red carpet whose fashion we can relate to and admire are also taking on this idea even though you could make these yourself for a fraction of the cost if you really want to.
I like how you can create volume and texture all with one material. It's shows the versatility of a trash bag!

Recycled fashion is a new idea to go with our times attempt with going green. Even though I wouldn't recommend dumping out the trash to use the bag to make an outfit for your next date, if  your daring enough, try out these options:
and when you're done ,remember to toss your old dress into the recycle bin instead of the trash. Theres no reason why you can save the planet at the same time your saving a bit of cash.

Coco Chanel once said  "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."  I guess this day and age you can find it in trash bags too.

what mediums?

The assignment is to create a blog about something that you are interested in but is different from a blog that you already have (if you have one). Problem is, I have one basic interest and my other blog basically covers it already. So I decided to focus on one specific element of my interest and that's the use of different mediums when it comes to art and to yourself. I'm hoping that this will become more than an assignment and that I will enjoy writing this and in the process learn some new things while researching for posts.

I'm focusing on how people use different mediums to create art of the body. It's basically is fashion but I want it to be a little more focused in terms of specific mediums like make up or clothes or body art that can possibly take inspiration from some great pieces of art work. For example, the construction of this dress looks like it takes inspiration from the ancient japanese art of paper folding also known as origami. I'd maybe even go into exploring and understanding the inspiration and mediums that go into  to create those pieces of art as well.

I have an idea of where I'm going with this idea in my head but I can't really translate it into words so I'm just going to post and hopefully you can understand what I'm talking about.  As a person who is interested in art, I look at things to see how they're made and get inspired for when I make my own pieces of art work. I think that the easiest canvas is yourself; you don't need any artistic skills, just a little imagination. I personally like to take pride in using myself as a sort of canvas. I like to make sure my make up looks cool, my accessories express some kind of individuality and my clothes reflect my interesest.

When reading this blog, keep in mind this quote but Frank Goble: "Because of their courage, their lack of fear, they (creative people) are willing to make silly mistakes. The truly creative person is one who can think crazy; such a person knows full well that many of his great ideas will prove to be worthless. The creative person is flexible -- he is able to change as the situation changes, to break habits, to face indecision and changes in conditions without undue stress. He is not threatened by the unexpected as rigid, inflexible people are."

This is one of my favorites and i think is a good description as to why everyone should maintain some creativity and individuality in their lives.

If you are looking for a little inspiration and want to see something cool check out this website:

Claire Prebble is also a good reference and what makes her work cooler is that she's not even 21 yet! http://www.virtualbay.co.nz/claireprebble/wearableart/index.htm
